Change your Lunch, Change your Life

  • Teaching Barre at Core Life Eatery last week was such a great experience to make new friends and share my love for health and fitness! Located in American Fork, Utah this restaurant is exactly what our Community needed! I met the Managers and Social Media team for Core Life at Granogi Festival this summer, and felt an instant connection with them. The are a business with Healthy Living at the center of their Core Values. We were on the same page with our ideals and I knew I wanted to collaborate with them when the time was right. So in the Fall we partnered up for a some giveaways and after a big success with our initial collaboration we decided to take it one step further and have me come in as a Guest Fitness Instructor.

  • As a business they've made it a priority to promote Health and Fitness to the Community by inviting Guest Fitness Instructors to come in to teach their fitness format in the restaurant before they open for lunch. It's a huge honor to be selected as one of the Instructors they hire on for their special events. I still cant believe that I got to go in and share my passion for Barre and healthy living with all those who attended. I utilized the Chairs and Tables already in the restaurant then brought Mats, Weights and Resistance Bands with me for the participants to use. What I love about Barre is that you can do it anywhere! You dont have to be in a studio space to get a great workout. You can literally do it at home or even a restaurant! Just get creative with your surroundings and have fun!

Exercise isn't just an opportunity to focus on my physical health, it's an outlet to express creativity through movement and make friends with like minded individuals! Through teaching exercise classes like Barre, Zumba, and Aerial Silks; I've been lucky to meet hundreds of amazing Men and Women! I just love how exercise brings people together and can turn strangers into friends! Adding in healthy and fresh food, and you have the perfect combo! So much of our health and wellness relies on our diet, so be kind to your body and fuel it with good food! Change your Lunch, Change your Life!

Advocacy and Why it Matters

This is my Son Brody. He has a Rare Chromosome Disorder;
20q13.33 Deletion, UPD of Chromosome 1, and Oppositional Defiant Disorder.

 I don't usually talk about his struggles, Drs. appointments medicines and therapies because it's a private part of our family's life. But I can't ignore this platform in front of me if it can be used for good to help my Son. I'm his Mother and biggest advocate for his health, so you can imagine how frustrating it is for me to watch our Government debate over signing a new Health Care Bill that affects his care and rights to coverage for a pre-existing condition.

The Senate is currently considering the "Graham-Cassidy" bill in another effort to replace the Affordable Care Act (ACA). If enacted, the bill will harm rare disease patients by cutting hundreds of billions of dollars from Medicaid, and removing key pre-existing condition protections.

Under "Graham-Cassidy," federal funding for Medicaid would be substantially weakened by per capita caps and block grants, resulting in your state potentially delaying or outright refusing coverage for necessary care under Medicaid. Rare disease patients seeking expanded Medicaid coverage would also be turned away after 2019.
If the Bill passed, it would leave rare disease patients with wholly inadequate coverage, bring back annual and lifetime limits for children and adults with rare diseases, and remove any protections against bankrupting out-of-pocket costs. It would also once again allow insurers to charge premiums based upon the health status of an individual. This practice is incredibly discriminatory, and would result in many, if not most, individuals with rare diseases being completely priced out of the private insurance market. The "Graham-Cassidy" bill would be devastating for individuals with rare diseases.
Politics aside, I firmly believe no child should be without a voice.  My Sons condition is rare and he is currently the only child in Utah with his specific Chromosome Disorder. I'm sure someday i'll share our story and how we are coping with his diagnosis, but until then I can not stay silent. This topic means too much to me and I can not sit back and let the whims of Politicians drive change.  This Country is too beautiful and unique to let millions of children and adults suffer lack of coverage for basic Health Care needs. Regardless of whether or not your child has a pre-existing condition, we must come together as parents, friends, and members of our communities to support children of all needs.

To Blog or not to Blog, that is the question? As a Woman who cant journal to save her life, but loves words and the way they transform the ordinary into the extraordinary; I have found myself in a Rock and a hard place.  Self expression through movement and language is beautiful to me and I feel my loveliest when I am doing both. As I balance Motherhood and Fitness I can attest that both body and soul are connected to each endeavor, and my overall happiness cant be complete without the other.
