Over the weekend I had the opportunity to share my Journey through Motherhood with Reagan Ogle, from The Luckiest Mom Blog. Her Podcast features daily messages of motivation for Moms, guest Podsters, lots of laughter and love. Pretty much, the essential Mom's go-to guide for inspiration to be her best self. Reagan was a dream to interview with and had really great prompts for helping me speak from the heart.
My Message was about Depression and Parenting a Special Needs Child. It's not easing being a Parent but add in the difficulties of raising a child with Epilepsy and a Rare Chromosome Disorder and soon all you'll see is the darkness between the Stars. Somedays the Stars shine bright and the darkness doesn't overwhelm you as much, but with enough time of no sleep, regulating behavioral outbursts and trying to keep your child from self harm...its easy to get lost amongst the Stars.
My life is full of wonder and happiness but to see the Stars for its ethereal beauty, I had to find myself all over again. I knew I needed help and the only way to Parent my children to the best of my ability was to be my best self. In the podcast I talk about my struggles with Depression and how I found the courage to seek help from my Husband and Doctor. My main hope in sharing my journey is to help others see that taking care of your Mental Health is just as important as your Physical Health. I love my life, my children and my spouse but there have been times where I couldn't see the blessings right in front of my eyes. The darkness that swirled around me was overwhelming but I took a step forward and found myself surrounded by Stars and light.
My hope is that you will feel less insecure about your Mental Health. And if you do find yourself in a position where the Stars dont shine as bright, I encourage you to reach out to your support system and seek the good in your life. Be brave and ask for help when you need it. You are not alone. Your struggles dont define you, how you rise above them is what develops your character. "Though my soul may set in darkness, it will rise in perfect light. I have loved the Stars too fondly to be fearful of the Night." - Sarah Williams
